The Basque coach spoke about his two years in Paris to France Football

Unai Emery won trophies during his time as Paris Saint-Germain coach (2016-2018) but says "small details" cost him in the Champions League.

"I could have become the best coach in the world in Paris," he said in an interview with France Football. "I let the chance escape me."

In his first season, Emery saw his PSG side knocked out of Europe by Barça. Despite winning the first leg 4-0, they succumbed to a 6-1 loss at Camp Nou in the return game.

"We were knocked out because VAR still did not exist," he bemoaned. "We were clearly eliminated because of refereeing decisions."

In his second season, Emery's PSG were knocked out by Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid, who went on to win the trophy for a third straight year.

"Against Madrid, we lost against a team that made history winning it three times in a row and, even so, in the first leg the was a lot to talk about when it came to the refereeing."
