Barcelona have started conversations with Ousmane Dembele over renewing his contract, which ends on June 30, 2022. Per ESPN, sources close to the French forward, 23, have been speaking with the club. Negotiations are beginning during a period that Dembele has played well in and he even wore the captain’s armband against Ferencvaros.
Barca want to renew his deal to protect their investment. If not, he can walk away for free in a year and a half’s time. Given they paid 107 million for him in 2017, that would be a disaster.
Man United have tried to sign Dembele and are still interested. He wants to try and succeed at Barca and is hoping his bad run of injuries is behind him.
ESPN say Dembele has won Ronald Koeman’s confidence. He is certainly playing well, scoring four and giving two assists in 11 appearances.
