Espanyol's complaint against 'ineligible' Lewandowski is dismissed

The striker played in Barça's 1-1 draw against Espanyol with his suspension placed on hold

The Spanish Football Federation's Competition Committee has achieved the complaint filed by Espanyol against Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski's participation in the Catalan derby.

The decision has been communicated to the clubs and Espanyol have 10 working days to appeal to the Appeals Committee. They will present said appeal.

After the game at Camp Nou ended 1-1 on Dec. 31, Espanyol report Barça for fielding an ineligible lineup due to the presence of Lewandowski, who the day before the match had seen his three-game suspension placed on hold until Barça's appeal received a firm resolution.

The Polish international had been sent off in the previous league game against Osasuna, which was played before the World Cup.

He was sanctioned with three matches by the Competition Committee, one for the dismissal for a double yellow card and two more for a gesture made to the referee in which he touched his nose.

Barça filed an appeal, which was dismissed, and then went to the TAD. This court did not decide on the matter and did not grant the Blaugrana the temporary hold, either, but it did open the door to resort to ordinary justice.

This is what Barça did, achieving the precautionary measure and allowing Lewandowski to play against Espanyol.

Lewandowksi's ban was eventually upheld and he missed the win at Atletico Madrid last weekend. He will also be suspended against Getafe and Girona later this month.
