Barcelona are looking for a footballer who adds quality to the centre of the pitch and can work hard too. The idea was to sign a top player, but the prices at the market are sky high and the options are not convincing. One player that is liked by the club, with the total support of Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona’s soon-to-be coach, is Ander Herrera.
The Manchester United midfielder has had an excellent season and has just one year left on his contract at Old Trafford. His name is on the table but Barcelona would have to convince him not to renew his deal.
Herrera played under Valverde at Athletic Bilbao and he was one of his most important men. He was not happy when United paid 36 million euros to sign him. Herrera played different roles in the midfield, including attacking midfield.
Andre has always been on the Barcelona agenda but they had not made a move for him. Last summer they took some steps forward when it seemed like Mourinho was not going to use him, but the club in the end prioritised other types of signings. Valverde’s arrival could be vital for a complicated (but financially viable) operation.
The big problem will be Manchester United’s position. Mourinho has got Herrera to shine and he is a key part of the team. He has ordered the club to renew Herrera’s deal.
