The sporting director of FC Barcelona, Éric Abidal, accompanied the club's new signing, Arturo Vidal in his first press conference. Along with vice-president Jordi Mestre, Abidal was at the presentation of the Chilean and spoke about him joining the club and about Barça's intentions in what remains of the transfer market.

Abidal highlighted the experience of the new Barça player and his qualities in the midfield: "He is an international player, we all know his profile and what he has done in the past, both with Juventus, Bayern and the national team. He will contribute defensively but also in attack, he has goals and can arrive in the box at the right time."

The sporting director admitted that the team "needed a player like that" and that "both the club and the director of football wanted him".

Regarding the idea that the signing of Arturo Vidal ends Barcelona's interest in De Jong or Pogba, Abidal was elusive: "We are not going to talk about players that are not ours, we have a good and complete squad. We'll see what decisions are made."

What Abidal did confirm is that the club works to finalise their transfer business as soon as possible: "The quicker we are all, the better."
