Goals in each half from Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba sealed the three points but the result doesn't tell the whole story of the game.

Eibar, who finished the match with 10 men, enjoyed large patches of domination and may feel they were worth at least a point.

In the end, though, it was Ernesto Valverde's side who won the game, extending their unbeaten start to La Liga to 24 games and traveling to London to face Chelsea on the back of a win.

Despite that pending clash with Chelsea, Valverde resisted the temptation to make changes, naming his strongest side for a game he predicted would be tough.

Eibar did most of the early running, with Cote and Ramis having headed chances and Marc-Andre ter Stegen saving from Kike.

Lionel Messi's brilliant pass then sent Suarez through to open the scoring but the home side nearly responded straight away, Fabian Orellana thumping the bar.

Joan Jordan then wasted another good chance for the Basque side, whose grip on the game held in the second half.

Messi did hit the post before half-time but there were few Barca chances after the break, as Eibar looked to get back on level terms in front of a record crowd of nearly 7,000 at Ipurua.

Their hopes reduced, though, when danger man Orellana was shown a second yellow card for punching the ball away in front of the referee.

That allowed Barca to relax slightly, although the home side were still a threat right up until Alba's 88th-minute goal sealed the points.
