Dortmund's Champions League place complicates Haaland to Barça

The German club have booked their place in next season's top European competition

Good news for Borussia Dortmund. And who knows if it's bad news for Barcelona. Dortmund have sealed their place in next season's Champions League with one game to go. A few weeks ago, it looked like they may miss out, but a timely run of form, which also saw them win the German cup, coupled with Eintracht Frankfurt's run of three winless games, has allowed them to turn things around.

Edin Terzic's side beat Mainz 3-1 at the weekend to make it five wins in a row in the league (and seven in all competitions). Erling Haaland, the team's star player, has been vital. The Norway striker, wanted by Barça and a number of Europe's biggest clubs, was not keen on staying at Dortmund if they were not in the Champions League. The fact they now are, coupled with their reluctance to sell, complicates any transfer this summer.

In fact, Mino Raiola, the player's agent, has been clear on Dortmund's stance, despite his recent trip to Spain to hold talks with Barça and Real Madrid over a deal.

"Dortmund have said they don't want to sell and it will be hard to change their mind," Raiola said. "I can confirm I was in Dortmund for talks. Michael Zorc made it clear they don't want to sell this summer. I respect their opinion but it doesn't automatically mean I am in agreement. They explained their view very clearly. There's no war between us and BVB, not at all. The relationship is good."

Pending an internal audit at Barça and the possibility of investment this summer, Haaland's cost seems too much to take on this summer. However, the club continue to look into the possibility of making a big signing ahead of the new season after missing out on the La Liga title this season.
