The newspaper had an event at Camp Nou to celebrate turning 40
Diario Sport was born on November 3, 1979, and here we are 40 years later. On Thursday night the newspaper celebrated at Camp Nou with a big event in Barcelona’s museum.
“No other newspaper understands better what it really means to be and feel a Barcelonista,” said Javier Moll, the president of Prensa Iberia and Grup Zeta.
Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu gave a speech, along with Roger Torrent, the president of the Parliament of Catalonia and other figureheads.
“All Cules have been reading Sport for 40 years, it has influenced so many generations of Barcelona fans. Sport has helped make Barcelona so great.”
There were photos, videos - including clips of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi wishing Sport happy birthday - drinks and so on.
But as director Ernest Folch said in his speech: “The best is still to come.”
