The defender was caught driving with an invalid license last week

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DGT) have communicated that Barcelona defendr Gerard Pique had lost all his points on his driving license and, for that reason, knew that he was banned from taking the wheel.

"Without going into too much detail, I will say that Pique was personally notified of the loss of points,” the head of the DGT, Pere Navarro, said when asked about the case.

Pique was caught driving with no points on his license after being pulled over by local police on Friday. A court judge on Monday requested that the DGT confirmed if Pique had been notified that he'd lost his points.

Drivers in Spain start with 12 points on their driving license and have points taken off for traffic offences.

A chauffeur

Navarro said that he didn't want to make any more comments on the issue but added: "It surprises me he doesn't travel with a chauffeur."

He also said that people in the public eye should "set a certain example" and finished: "Everyone knows what they have to do."
