The Dutch centre-back spoke with Frenkie de Jong a lot before making his decision

Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt spoke about the relationship he has with Frenkie de Jong after the two went their separate ways last summer.

They played together at Ajax and were close friends but destiny led De Jong to Barcelona and De Ligt to Juventus after the Dutch side's impressive run to the Champions League semifinal.

De Ligt spoke to Ziggo this week and said that despite the distance between them now, the relationship with De Jong remains strong.

"I still speak with Frenkie a lot," he said. "It's funny to think that two years ago we were in Ajax's B team and now I am playing with Ronaldo and Frenkie with Messi. It's quite strange!"

In the interview, De Ligt explained the reasons that took him to Juve ahead of other others, including one from PSG. "And yes, (also) Barcelona," he added.

He continued: "I studied all the offers and finally reached the conclusion that at Juve I could grow much more as a player with a different style that would make me more complete."
