The Dutch defender beat Kluivert and Vinicius to claim the prize which Mbappe won last year

Ajax's Dutch centre half, Matthijs de Ligt, is the Golden Boy 2018 winner. The youngster, who is being scouted by FC Barcelona, was named the best under 21 footballer in the world according to Italian newspaper 'Tuttosport'.

De Ligt claimed the award which was won by Kylian Mbappe last year. The 19-year-old centre back beat competition which included Justin Kluivert, Vinicius, Alexander-Arnold and Patrick Cutrone. Roma's Kluivert won a poll on the newspaper's website but it was De Ligt who won the overall vote.

Curiously Mbappe, who finished fourth in the Ballon d'Or vote, didn't even make the top five this year. Although it's worth remembering that in the 16 editions of the award no player has claimed the prize twice.
