The defender would like to play at Camp Nou but doesn't want to lose money

Matthijs de Ligt has a foot and a half in the door at Juventus but will try until the end to force Barcelona to change their offer. The Dutch defender got in touch with the club via one of his people to make it clear that he would prefer to play at Camp Nou. He wants Barca to match Juve’s economic offer - if they are equal he will come to Catalonia. The Blaugrana told him they are maintaining their offer and if he wants to come he must accept it - and De Ligt has not yet responded to that.

Barca believe he will sign for Juve for five years on 10m net per season. The Italians, aided by softer fiscal laws, have pushed hard to beat PSG to the Ajax man. At Barca he would get 6.5m euros net per season, the same as Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona believe he is wrong to do so and will not raise their already big offer for a 19 year old player, which would provoke an earthquake in the dressing room if they did.

De Ligt is expected to decide n the coming days, maybe this week, and it seems likely he will not come to Camp Nou. When he explain himself though, he will likely look to keep a good relationship with Barca and not burn bridges for the future.
