Dani Alves: We have to be more together than ever for Barça to return

The defender was in high spirits at his presentation and hopes to bring that vibe back

Dani Alves was delighted to be back at Barcelona and said as much on Barça TV, the club’s channel. “Not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined it, it’s an inexplicable feeling I have inside, I’m more than happy.”

The 38-year-old cannot play until January. “I always wanted to come back,” he added. “Now I’m a child of 38 and I’ve evolved and improved. It’s hard to reach Barcelona and coming back is hard too. It’s a very special day for me.”

He has played at PSG, Sevilla and Juventus but says none are comparable to Barça. “There’s nothing like it,” said Alves. “I arrived to bring us together and be great again, connect us with good energy. We all have to do out part. In the hard moments is when we have to be more together. I want to infect the fans (with positivity).

“It’s the hardest challenge and the most special too. When I got the call I said I wanted to play at Barca. I will honour the shirt as I have done all my life.”

SHIRT No 8

“I wanted to pay homage, like I did with Eric Abidal and Xavi Hernandez, now Andres Iniesta. All of them are great people and good friends. To be able to wear his number is special.”

RETURN

“I earned the right to leave by the front door. I left before my contract was up and I went with the itch of needing to come back here. I did not give a goodbye because I knew it could happen at some moment. The people will see the same me but in a more mature and intelligent way.”
