The Barcelona sporting director spoke about the club's transfer plans on Tuesday

FC Barcelona would like to be able to sign in January. The club have been working on deals in the case the opportunity arises and, in that sense, they have some advanced operations in place.

The problem is, like in summer, the financial fair-play restrictions imposed by La Liga, but Barça haven't thrown in the towel.

At least that is what emerges from the words of the sporting director, Jordi Cruyff.

"The rules are what they are for everyone and, therefore, if we cannot sign, we have to continue, but if something can be done suddenly, we are clear about what we want to do," he told TV3.

They also asked him about other possible movements in the upcoming window and he stressed that there is no "exit plan" for Frenkie de Jong, although he was not so resounding with Memphis Depay.

"Let's see," he added. "In August he already had options to leave, but it didn't happen.

The forward's contract expires on June 30 but Cruyff did say that Robert Lewandowski's three-game ban may cause the Dutchman to end up staying.

"Now we have Lewandowski suspended for three games and if you then have an injury you still need something," he said.

On other names, he acknowledged that Endrick visited the club earlier is year and that he spoke with Xavi but that it was not a "negotiation" but rather a first contact to find out the situation of the pearl of Palmeiras.

Cruyff also explained that when the World Cup is over they want to talk to Sergio Busquets about his future. The midfielder's contract is up and he has practically decided to go play in MLS, specifically at Inter Miami.

"When he returns from the World Cup, with time, obviously there will be answers because the club also has to plan for the future," he said.

"(Busquets) deserves that respect, that he himself can decide how and when."

Finally, he confirmed that they are already working on the contract renewals of Alejandro Balde and Iñaki Peña.
