The French defender will become Barca's first signing of the summer

Clement Lenglet's transfer to Barcelona is practically done. On Saturday we reported that the French defender would tell the club he was leaving on Monday, and he did just that. Through his representative, Lenglet told Sevilla that he is rejecting their contract offer and will sign for Barcelona.

Lenglet had asked to think over the weekend but eventually decided to make his move to Catalonia. After the player decided to move, executives from both clubs spoke, with the objective of seeing if Sevilla will accept a transfer deal or if Barca have to pay his release clause instead.

Barca would prefer to pay the transfer fee instead of activating the clause, offering Sevilla 35m euros when the clause is just 30. They would also pay Nancy 3m euros in development rights.

Lenglet will beome Barca's first summer signing. Valverde would get another defender to compete with Pique and Umtiti. Not having travelled to the World Cup, Lenglet can start training on the first day of pre-season and go on tour in the USA. He will be ready for Barca's first game - the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla.

Yerry Mina may go out on loan as a result, as Thomas Vermaelen is also at the club still and Valverde likes him. After Lenglent, Barca will turn their attention to Arthur. He is ready to join from Gremio.

SOON OFFICIAL

On Tuesday Lenglet is expected to make it official that he is not staying at Sevilla and it is likely he will be officially announced as a Barca player on Thursday, or even before if things are tied up quickly.
