The Blues are aiming to sign the Dutch midfielder although it might be hard to convince him

Key days are coming in Frenkie de Jong and Barcelona’s future. Xavi has made it clear that he is not certain the midfielder will bee there for this new season. And Chelsea have woken up and confirmed they will move for De Jong and that they will present an immediate offer. The arrival of the London club could convince the player, with the ball in his court.

Todd Boehly, the owner of Chelsea, was in Barcelona in early July to meet Joan Laporta. Chelsea confirmed they would sell Barcelona Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso if there was an agreement that suited them, and they also asked about De Jong.

Chelsea have been busy on other deals and are now coming back to De Jong, knowing Barcelona had a deal for 80m euros at least with Man United.

The issue for Chelsea is convincing De Jong. The Dutchman is reticent to leave, but the Blues are in the Champions League so that could help lure him. However it’s hard for them to agree to match De Jong’s wage at Barcelona.

United have not thrown in the towel yet either, although De Jong does not want to go there. Chelsea’s arrival could change the situation.

If De Jong goes, then Barcelona will activate their move for Man City’s Bernardo Silva, who has a deal with the Catalan club agreed. Interesting days lie ahead.
