Celta Vigo 3-3 Barcelona: Three goal lead squandered at Balaidos

Sergi Barjuan signed off with a draw as Barça crumbled in the second half

Iago Aspas scored a 96th minute equaliser as Barcelona squandered a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Celta Vigo at Balaidos on Saturday.

Barca raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time thanks to goals from Ansu Fati, Sergio Busquets and Memphis Depay.

But injuries to Ansu, Eric Garcia and Nico Gonzalez swung the game in Celta's favour after the break.

Aspas gave Celta hope in the 52nd minute and by the time Nolito headed home in the 74th minute the home side were streaming with confidence.

Just as it looked as if they would run out of time, Aspas struck in the sixth minute of five minutes of stoppage time.

The draw extends Barça's winless run in LaLiga to four games and once again revealed the scale of the task facing new coach Xavi Hernandez.

Barca confirmed earlier on Saturday that Xavi will take over next week after an agreement was reached with Al Sadd for him to return to the club, but interim boss Sergi Barjuan remained in charge in Vigo.

Aspas missed a one-on-one in just the second minute before Ansu fired Barca into a fifth-minute lead, via a slight deflection, with his fourth goal of the season.

Busquets doubled Barca's lead before the 20th minute after great work from the brilliant Nico Gonzalez, before Memphis capped a fine team move by heading in Jordi Alba's cross just after the half-hour mark.

However, things began to go wrong for Barca when Ansu injured his hamstring just before the break. The forward was taken off at half-time, replaced by Alejandro Balde, with Eric Garcia also lost to a calf injury.

Celta started the second half strongly and Aspas got them back in the game after Marc-Andre ter Stegen fumbled a cross and Ronald Araujo, who had replaced Garcia, failed to clear it.

Despite that, there appeared no immediate danger but the game quickly changed after Nico was forced off with an injury.

Nolito had already had one goal ruled out for handball when he found space between Clement Lenglet and Alba to head in Celta's second as the noise levels inside Baladios grew.

Frenkie de Jong struck the bar for Barca as five minutes of time were added on.

Barca navigated those five but no the extra minute that was played, with Aspas scoring a fine goal from the corner of the box with what was effectively the last kick of the game.
