CDS: Barça target Lautaro Martinez to renew Inter Milan contract

The Argentine was once close to Barcelona but he's drifted away recently

Lautaro Martinez and Inter are set to announce in the coming days that the striker has agreed to a new contract with the Italian club.

'Corriere Dello Sport' report on Sunday than an agreement has been reached and it just needs to be signed off. Once that's the case, Lautaro, who not so long ago was Barça's top target, would edge further away from a move to Camp Nou, with the focus now on Erling Haaland and even Neymar, who wants to return to the club again.

According to the cited media, Lautaro's new release clause will be significantly more than the €111 million Barça would have had to pay last summer.

Getting Lautaro, 23, to commit to the club means Inter now have more control over the Argentine's future.

Renewal aside, another factor that has contributed to Lautaro drifting away from Barça is that he has broken with his old agent, Beto Yaque, who has a good relationship with the Catalan club.

Therefore, a deal that once seemed close, before the coronavirus pandemic hit, now looks unlikely. Although in football -- especially in recent years -- everything is possible.
