The goalkeeper and the left-back will sign new deals with the Catalan club
Pending a few final details, the signatures and the official announcements, Barcelona consider the renewals of Alejandro Balde and Iñaki Peña closed. The Alicante goalkeeper's new deal could even be announced in the coming days.
The sporting committee led by Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff have been working for weeks to ensure the continuity of Peña, who provides backup for Marc-Andre rer Stegen. The agreement with the goalkeeper's agent is total.
Peña has Xavi's backing. He knows that Ter Stegen is the starting goalkeeper, but after some doubts and the possibility of going out looking for more minutes, he chose to continue growing at Barça.
He made his official debut in the first team in the last match of the Champions League group stage against Viktoria Plzen and started in the first round of the Copa del Rey against Intercity. He will also play on Thursday against Ceuta. These two games are played after Barça have obtained his registration with the first team.
Peña's contract is up on June 30 and, in principle, he will extend it until 2026. The extension will be accompanied by an increase in salary and also by an increase in the termination clause of the goalkeeper, which is currently €60 million.
Barça have also agreed to extend Balde's contract, which has been one of the priorities of the sporting committee since the full-back represented by Jorge Mendes exploded onto the scene. His season so far has been superlative and even helped him go to the World Cup in Qatar with the Spanish team.
With a contract until June 30, 2024, he has not listened to any of the multiple offers that he has received. He will renew with Barça and have a clause of €1 billion, the same as Araujo, Pedri, Ansu and Gavi, and will remain linked to Barça until 2027.
His renewal, however, may not become official until the end of the season due to the problems Barça have with the Financial Fair Play rules in LaLiga.
