The Italian was asked about the Barca legend's move to PSG this summer

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to media on Friday and was asked about Barcelona losing Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain.

“It surprised me a bit because since a kid he was at Barca,” said Ancelotti. “But I’ve had 42 years in football and it doesn’t surprise me that a player changes clubs. It was strange in football 42 years ago but not today’s game. I have a lot respect for the decision of Barcelona and Messi.”

He also denied there was more merit to beating a Barca with Messi to the title than without.

“We have to compete with Barca, the same as against Atletico. Without Messi, it’s always Barca, one of the best teams in the world, so for us it doesn’t change. What we have to do is try to beat them.”
