Barcelona received an offer from England for the midfielder but he wasn't having a bar of it

Carlos Alena maintains his confidence that he can become a Barcelona starter, a key player at the club of his dreams.

The midfielder, on loan at Real Betis, has rejected a big offer from a strong Premier League side.

Superagent Jorge Mendes brought Barca an offer from a top PL club for Alena. It was worth over 25m euros plus a big salary rise for the player himself.

Barca told Ivan de la Pena, Alena’s agent. His response was concise. Alena isn’t thinking about leaving Barcelona because he wants to succeed at Camp Nou.

Once his loan is over at Betis, he wants to rejoin Barca for next season. If Quique Setien doesn’t count on him then he will head out again on loan.

Alena believes he needs regular minutes, which he’s getting at Betis, starting seven of 11 games.

“I’m very happy, I love it,” said Alena. “I had my first son here and I love how the club treats the players. It would be mad to shut the door to Betis.”

He has also been linked with a possible swap deal to Bayer Leverkusen for Kai Havertz.

Alena’s contract at Barca expires in 2022. By then he wants to be a key figure in the Catalan capital.
