According to 'Canal Sur', Real Betis wanted the young midfielder on loan this season

Real Betis tried to sign Carles Aleña on loan at the end of the summer transfer window. FC Barcelona decided against letting him leave despite the player being open to a temporary move away.

According to Canal Sur's 'El Pelotazo' programme, Betis tried desperately to secure a late deal on deadline day. One of the names on their shortlist was the Barça youngster.

Aleña was receptive to the idea of playing regular football in LaLiga, or at least more than he will this season at the Camp Nou. However, Barça refused to sanction the deal as the futures of so many players were uncertain until the transfer window closed.

Emre Can, who was also linked with Barça, was another option on the table for Betis but his wage demands made it impossible to get it over the line.
