| sport

The loss at the minnows was a system shock and from there it all changed

Barcelona host Cadiz on Sunday with the memory of the 2-1 defeat at the Ramon de Carranza still painfully etched n their memories. Since then they have flown in La Liga with 10 wins and two draws, 32 points from a possible 36.

It was a grotesque night, December 5, 2020. They faced a then high-flying Cadiz and terrible defensive errors saw them lose. Alvaro Gimenez broke the deadlock after Ter Stegen was forced into a great save to deny his own defender, Oscar Mingueza, who headed back towards his net.

The second was even worse, with Lenglet and Ter Stegen in a muddle and Alvaro Negredo scoring a tap-in.

Barcelona reacted well after that in La Liga. They beat Levante (1-0), Real Sociedad (1-0), Real Valladolid (3-0), Huesca (10), Athletic Bilbao (3-2 and 2-1), Granada (4-0), Elche (2-0), Betis (3-2) and Alaves (5-1). The only points they dropped were home draws with Valencia (2-2) and Eibar (1-1).

They changed to 4-3-3 after the Eibar game and from there have looked a lot better.

By contrast, Cadiz have suffered. They have only one win since the game, 3-1 against Alaves, three dates and seven defeats. Life comes at you fast.
