Messi has now closed his new contract agreement with Barcelona

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has now reached an agreement with the club over a new deal, according to Cadena Ser. The terms will see him extend his current contract, which is due to expire next summer.

Messi, Cadena Ser report, will sign for an additional three years with a fourth year optional. His release clause will also rise from 250 million euros to 400 million euros, warding off any potential interest from elsewhere.

Therefore, the 29-year-old will be with Barça until, at least, 2021, which is when the other members of the MSN trident -- Luis Suarez and Neymar -- have also renewed until.

The reports from Cadena Ser confirm that president Josep Maria Bartomeu personally handled the talks with Messi and his father, Jorge, to ensure the agreement was reached.

It's likely the new deal will be signed after June 30, though, so that it counts as part of next season's budget.
