After spending many years trying to reach the elite, the Danish striker has no interest in dropping down a level

Martin Braithwaite is currently planning to stay at FC Barcelona, and will only consider a move if it is to another top European club. After spending many years trying to reach the top of the game, the Danish forward is now enjoying his time at Barça. He has no interest in joining a mid-table team or one which does not have ambitions of winning trophies.

The striker has already turned down proposals from Premier League sides West Ham and Brighton and Hove Albion. While he would be able to command a reasonable salary at these sides, Braithwaite does not want to take a step backwards in his career. After playing for Esbjerg, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Middlesbrough and Leganés before arriving at Camp Nou, the 30-year-old wants to play at the highest level possible. His decision has been taken with the 2022 Qatar World Cup in mind, as he wants to make sure of his place in the squad.

Barça are expecting offers for the player

FC Barcelona are willing to listen to offers until the end of the window. However, the club are now happy for the player to remain at Camp Nou, given how important he is in Ronald Koeman's squad. Braithwaite started the league opener against Real Sociedad last Sunday, scoring two goals and laying on one assist.

Koeman was happy with Braithwaite's performance and feels he is a good foil for Memphis and Antoine Griezmann. He makes selfless off-the-ball runs, tracks back well and never shirks a challenge. However, despite these qualities, the player remains on the transfer list and Koeman has even asked the club for another striker.

Next week will be decisive. Clubs will start making offers, desperate to get players in before the window slams shut. Barça are expecting offers, but Braithwaite will only consider a move to a to side.
