The French defender has a contract until 2018 and may want to stay

He has not played since the 3-0 beating by Juventus but the new project is starting

Barcelona's Jeremy Mathieu, the French defender, plans to stay at the club until his contract expires in 2018 and not leave in the summer, according to BeIn Sports.

Although the club don't need him next season he still has one more year on his deal and unless Barcelona pay off the rest of his contract he has no plans to leave.

He has not played for the team since the 3-0 defeat by Juventus, in which he was subbed off at half-time. Officially speaking, Mathieu has an Achilles tendon problem.

He arrived in 2014, one of the first signings under Luis Enrique. Barcelona paid 20m to Valencia for him.
