Bayern want to send Barça and Lewandowski into Europa League

The German side want to twist the knife when they come to Camp Nou on Wednesday

Barcelona have just four points from four Champions League games, a situation that is likely to see them exit the competition at the group stage. If before the draw was made it was assumed they would be in the last 16, that is now a difficult ask which is out of their hands.

Bayern Munich are the opposite side of the coin. They have 12 points, top the group and have a place in the next round guaranteed already. The only thing they don't yet know is if they will top the group, although it seems likely.

The next game pits Barça against Bayern at Camp Nou in a special occasion for the Germans, keeping in mind the balance of results between the two teams. Two Barça wins, one draw and nine Bayern victories. And the most recent: 2-0 last month, 3-0 and 0-3 last season, always in Bayern's favour, and then the 8-2 in Lisbon. Barça have not beaten Bayern since 2014-15.

All these incentives don't compare to what really motivates the Bavarian side going into Wednesday's game, though: 1) the possibility of knocking Barça out. 2) the possibility of revenge for the Robert Lewandowski transfer saga.

Bayern did not want to transfer the Polish striker but his insistence and Barça's efforts forced them into a corner. Now Bayern want to show Barça and Lewandowski that he made a mistake by sending him into the Europa League. Therefore, the Bayern players want to bring an end to Barça's Champions League campaign in style. In their own home. In front of their own fans.
