Bayern Munich have taken the lead in the rice to sign Ajax and United States right-back Sergiño Dest, with Barcelona also keen.
According to Bild, the German side have already reached an agreement with Dest over a five-year deal, although there's no agreement with Ajax yet.
Bayern don't want to pay as much as the Dutch side are demanding, so have been unable to close the transfer just yet, with Barça lurking.
The Catalan side are following the situation closely. They don't have any money to spend but hope the good relationship with Ajax could help find a workaround.
Earlier in the week it was reported Barça would look to take Dest on loan and then pay a fee next summer, but that's dependent on selling Nelson Semedo first.
