Bartomeu's contract message will not go down well with Rakitic
Rakitic was hoping for a new deal but the presdient says 'not now'
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu responded to Ivan Rakitic's plea for a new deal after turning down a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Speaking to SPORT, Rakitic said he was waiting for a call from Bartomeu with regards to an improved contract after showing his commitment to the club.
However, Bartomeu told Josep Ramón de la Morena on the radio show 'El Transistor' on Onda Cero that it will not be possible to satisfy the Croatian's demands this year.
"This season we will not be able to make the gesture that Rakitic is asking of us," he said. "Next season we can look at it in relation to new revenue."
For the moment, Barcelona have the highest wage bull in Spanish football and cannot heed to Rakitic's request.
