The Barcelona president doesn't want to let him go for free to a direct rival

Josep Maria Bartomeu has put the brakes on Luis Suarez's move to Atletico Madrid. He doesn't want the Barcelona striker to go to a direct rival for free.

The last time Barça let a forward join Atletico in favourable circumstances -- David Villa -- the Rojiblancos went on to win La Liga, drawing at Camp Nou on the final day of the season to clinch the title.

Atletico, as has been the case with Suarez, moved quickly to sign Villa and ended up paying just over two million euros for the ex-Spain striker.

Villa was spectacular during his one season with the club. He scored a goal in the Spanish Supercup against Barça, helped knock Barça out of the Champions League and then won the league at Camp Nou in week 38 of the season.

For that reason, Bartomeu is against strengthening Atletico Madrid again, especially without bringing in a penny for Suarez. The Uruguayan is now waiting to see what can be resolved.
