Barcelona's top priority is to stop Ronald Araujo leaving for free

The Uruguayan's new contract has still not been registered with LaLiga

The LaLiga-imposed salary limit is causing a real headache for Barcelona. There is minimal room and efforts are focused on registering Gavi, Iñaki Peña and, above all, Ronald Araujo's new contracts. The absolute priority is that of the central defender and it will now be done with all probability or certainty before June 30 to prevent him from being able to leave for free.

Araujo renewed a few months ago with a substantial salary increase that rewarded his progress and new status at the club. Like Gavi, the defender accepted Barça's economic conditions, rejecting superior offers to leave because his desire was to succeed at the Blaugrana. Months after the agreement, Barça have still not been able to register this new contract to make it effective in LaLiga.

Araujo's situation has not gone unnoticed in the market and several teams are attentive to events. Barça know that but there is calm at the club. Firstly, because there is the chance his contract will be registered in January and, if not, it will be before June 30. Furthermore, the player has no intention of leaving Barça because he has already sacrificed a lot to stay here.

Barça's idea is to get it done quickly. Work is also underway with Gavi and Iñaki Peña and it is likely that one of the two contracts could also be registered this month. Who will have to wait a little longer is Alejandro Balde, with the renewal already agreed, but it should be effective before June 30.
