The Catalans pooh-poohed the story from Lluis Canut and hit back with a statement

Journalist Lluis Canut gave a list of the players at Barcelona with the highest salaries on TV3 on Thursday, but the club claims this information is false.

Barcelona published a statement explaining the various mistakes he had made.

“In connection with the statements of Mr. Lluís Canut made yesterday on TV3 program ‘Onze’, FC Barcelona wants to clarify the following,” wrote the Catalans.

“The information on the salaries of certain first team players has not been provided by the club under any circumstances and their origin is unknown.

“In any case, the amounts referred to in the information are erroneous, do not correspond to reality and, in addition, in the case of the first three players mentioned, give as fixed amounts that, being variable, may never come to be earned.

“It is false that the players in question have only deferred 100% of their salary. Messrs. Piqué, Busquets and Alba resigned part of their salary when they signed the last contract renewal last summer.

“We consider it improper, unprofessional and acting in bad faith when providing this information as truthful, and we regret that such data is provided that affects the personal rights of the players and that they deserve the highest confidentiality and protection.”
