Sporting Club's coach Jorge Jesus has asked for Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu to be signed. The 33-year-old sat out the end of the season with an Achilles tendon injury and was not in Luis Enrique's plans after he upset the coach during the 3-0 defeat by Juventus, taken off at half-time.
The Portuguese side have made the first steps towards signing the Frenchman, whom Barcelona paid Valencia 20m euros for in 2014. He has a year left on his contract at Barcelona and while he is unlikely to feature in Ernesto Valverde's plans either, he wants to stay at Camp Nou.
However if he can be convinced by Sporting, who may feature in the Champions League next season if they make it through the qualifiers, he could yet leave the club.
