The Morocco international could add heft to Barcelona's midfield
Barça are set to bolster their midfield, a priori, with the arrival of two midfielders. The idea is to sign Gundogan, although there is still no financial agreement with the player, and a more physical player, who would be Sofyan Amrabat. Barça's director of football, Mateu Alemany, is trying to make progress in the operation with clear economic limits. The Blaugrana does not want to pay more than 25 million euros plus bonuses for a player who does want to come to Camp Nou.
Xavi Hernandez has asked for the arrival of a pivot with a physical profile that will allow him to have defensive strength for top level matches in the Champions League. His dream was Zubimendi, but Barça have already ruled out this operation due to the price of the Real Sociedad player. The next on the list was Amrabat, who was close to signing in January, and they have now got down to work with the help of the Moroccan player himself.
Barça tried a few months ago to sign him on loan for six months and tempted Fiorentina with a high purchase option of 40 million euros to bring it all to a successful conclusion. That offer is now history and the Blaugrana club does not intend to pay a premium despite the fact that Amrabat has the interest of several top European teams. The big advantage for the Blaugrana is that the Moroccan absolutely prioritizes playing for Barça and would have a promise from Fiorentina to be able to leave this summer, so they hope that an economically beneficial agreement can be reached.
Barça's valuation is clear because Amrabat will have one year left on his contract, with an optional one, and he has not renewed nor does he intend to do so in the short term. Fiorentina want to get more out of him by wielding offers from the Premier League, but the Blaugrana club does not intend to go crazy on this issue as the financial situation is tight. Amrabat's firm stance could be key to the arrival of a player very much to Xavi's liking.
