Barça's dilemma with Quique Setien at the helm
The board want time to think and take decisions calmly at the end of the season
La Liga express continues with Barcelona at Villarreal on Sunday. At La Ceramica one of the final five Barca games of the league season takes place, with Quique Setien at the helm but perhaps not for much longer.
The board, led by Josep Maria Bartomeu, have decided to act calmly and will let the coach continue for the rest of the campaign and the Champions League too.
Bartomeu wants to act with a cool head. They are all aware of the tensions between some players in the squad and staff. There's no good feelings there right now. Sacking the coach could make it worse.
Setien will stay barring total debacle, and that's unlikely. Even in the draws against Celta and Atletico there were green shoots, with Riqui Puig being the main one. Barcelona's board believe they can eliminate Napoli and reach the Champions League final eight in Lisbon.
PLAN B
However the scenario could change if the team suffers in the next month and a half. If the team win nothing, Setien could have his contract cut.
He signed until 2022 but in 2021 there is a break clause because of the elections. The coach knows that the board, for how, have his back, but he does not have unlimited credit.
