Barcelona will return for Flamengo right-back Wesley in the summer

The club could not match the Brazilian team's demands during the January window

Barcelona Atlètic will try again in the summer to sign Wesley, the Flamengo right-back, who was and continues to be the number one on the list of reinforcements that the club is handling for this position.

FIFA's refusal to authorise the registration of Mexican player Julián Araujo, because the documentation arrived 18 seconds outside the transfer window, has given Wesley a lifeline. There is no going back on the decision of world football's highest body.

The club has technical reports recommending the signing of the Brazilian full-back, who is seen as having the potential to make the leap to the first team almost immediately. For this reason, Barcelona aim to reopen negotiations with Flamengo and try to reach an agreement in the next transfer window.

Wesley's loan deal fell through on the penultimate day of the Januart transfer window because the reigning Copa Libertadores champions were unmovable.

As SPORT has been able to confirm, they demanded €1.5 million for the loan of the player and a compulsory purchase option of €15 million, an absolutely unreachable figure for a player who was, in principle, going to the reserve team coached by Rafa Márquez.

Despite the fact that Flamengo have already covered their sales budget for the whole of 2023, with the transfer of Joao Gomes to Wolverhampton for €18.7 million, their unyielding stance ended up being interpreted by Barça as a way of not wanting to part with their youth player.

Wesley has been included in the squad for the Club World Cup and is already in Morocco, where the South American champions will make their debut in the semi-finals on Tuesday and are dreaming of a possible final against Real Madrid.
