Barcelona want to tie down Pedri with new deal

They could add two seasons to his current contract but have a different idea

Barcelona’s new board are analysing the squad and the various contract situations. They are trying to keep Ousmane Dembele, seal new deals for Ilaix Moriba and Oscar Mingueza, and another name on the table is Pedri.

Barcelona want to tie him down after his explosion this season.

His performance has been surprisingly good. There were a lot of expectations for him but he has gone above and beyond them, leaving his current contract a joke.

Pedri signed for four seasons, a two plus two deal, but as an indisputable starter he needs a new contract. Barcelona could clearly add the second two years, which they can do unilaterally, but the idea is to get him to sign an even longer contract and of course raise his pay.

They want a four or five year deal, keeping a 400m euro release clause. Relations between Barca and Pedri’s people have been very good. He is happy too, key to the team and going to Euro 2021.

Barca see renewing him as a priority. Pedri’s relationship with Koeman is sensational and his biggest desire is to stay at the club for many years and win titles. There’s not excessive hurry over the matter but the idea is to take the first step in the next few weeks.
