The club are hoping to get both Chelsea defenders on free transfers next summer
Barcelona’s international director of football, Jordi Cruyff, says the club is working on contract renewals and potential summer arrivals already.
They want to focus all their economic effort on a top centre forward, with the other arrivals coming at zero cost, and Chelsea duo Azpilicueta and Christensen fit that bill.
Barca have been working on the pair and with Azpi, a three-season deal is basically agreed. He reinforces the right-back spot, is versatile, strong and a Spain international.
Christensen’s case looked good a couple of weeks ago but Barcelona froze the operation to look at other defenders. In recent days they have picked up the thread and the Dane has other offers, even though he would prioritise playing at Barcelona.
They think he fits Barcelona’s style, has grown a lot in the Premier League and can fight for a starting spot with ease. They have made him an offer and are waiting to hear the outcome.
