Mestre officially leaves because of his role in the hotel industry

Barcelona vice president Jordi Mestre has resigned from his role at the club due to "strong discrepancies" with other members of the board.

Mestre took the decision, which has still not been made official by the club, after a meeting on Wednesday afternoon at the club with Javier Bordas, Xavier Vilajoana and Silvio Elías.

It seems the meeting through up a dispute over the policy over signings and the decisions taken by sporting director Pep Segura. Mestre has always strongly supported Segura and more may develop with this story.

The resignation could provoke an internal crisis among the board because the hotelier was president Josep Maria Bartomeu's person of confidence.

Without knowing more details behind the resignation, it's worth pointing out that Barça are involved in a busy summer, with Frenkie de Jong already signed and Neymar and Antoine Griezmann lined up.

Mestre joined the board in 2010 under Sandro Rosell and has remained with the club through Bartomeu's presidency. He had always planned to leave the club when the current board's mandate ends in 2021, he revealed to SPORT recently.
