Ousmane Dembele doesn’t stop believing. The Barca forward, back in the French national team two years later, played with the form he has shown this season. Nobody doubts him as a Barca starter now. However his explosion has coincided with the final part of his Barcelona contract. The Catalan club have not tied him down for longer than the summer of 2022. They want to renew the player but have to think about all scenarios.

‘Dembouz’ has adapted to the city and the club. He has left his bad beginnings behind and fits in well with his team-mates. He and Messi have been linking well and he’s now part of the dressing room’s banter ecosystem. Barcelona have no doubts about him any more. Ronald Koeman and his staff believe in him and think he has a big margin for improvement too. He cost 105 + 40m euros back in the day from Dortmund.

However Barcelona’s bad economic situation does not bode well for them. They know he will receive plenty of offers, given he is only 23 and a talent with still more potential. His people are not rushing into negotiations with Barca, with his agent very calm about the situation, which worries the club.

They are optimistic and think Dembele is happy here now, so he will sign on. But Joan Laporta and the board have to be prepared for anything. If he doesn’t renew and isn’t sold in the summer then he can walk away the following year. That’s why they want to take on his renewal sooner rather than later.
