La Ser say the Catalan club wanted to play on Wednesday or Thursday

According to La Ser, Barcelona tried on two occasions to get their game with Villarreal moved. The Spanish champions host Villarreal at Camp Nou on Tuesday at 9pm local time (CET).

The game comes one day after FIFA's The Best awards, where Lionel Messi scooped the top prize and Frenkie de Jong and Marc-Andre ter Stegen were also up for awards.

La Ser say Barça asked for the game to be postponed for one or two days, so that it would be played on Wednesday or Thursday. The reason being that Messi, Ter Stegen and de Jong all attended the event in Milan on Monday night.

Barça first made the request when FIFA announced the date of the gala. They then asked again 10 days ago, when it was confirmed that three of their players would be at the event.

La Liga rejected both of the Catalan club's requests.
