Valverde wants to add to his back line and the club want someone in the vein of Umtiti

The idea is to sign Yerry Mina if Vermaelen leaves in January while Pep Segura is looking at prospects

Barcelona will make signings to reinforce their defence. And not just one, which was predicted. The club are working on the idea of signing two centre-backs, for the short and mid-term.

The first could arrive in January, the second would have to wait until the summer. They want to repeat the success they had with Samuel Umtiti.

YERRY MINA

The Colombian centre-back could arrive in January if Thomas Vermaelen leaves the club. The sporting director wants to accelerate the Colombian defender's arrival, with Barcelona aiming to speed up his arrival from Palmeiras, whom they have an option to buy for 9m euros with.

Barcelona will keep the Colombian in their sights, as he's one of the defenders with the biggest potential in South America. He was voted best in his position in the Brazilian league in 2016.

PROMISING TALENTS

Umtiti's excellent adaptation has caused the technical staff to dream of repeating that success from the French league. Convinced the French youth system is strong, Pep Segura and his men have started tracking various footballers including Zagadou and Diakhaby.

Zagadou has debuted with Borussia Dortmund and featured in the Champions League. At 18 years old the left footed centre back who formed at PSG has featured in the French national team's youth teams.

Diakhaby, 20, is featuring for Olympic Lyon's first team. He plays for France U21 too. Another name on the list is Napoli's Koulibaly, who is more experienced than the other two.
