The Brazilian was sacked in 2021 after being signed in 2020 with four years left on his deal

Barcelona will have to pay 7.7 million euros to Matheus Fernandes for unfair dismissal according to Cadena SER. The Brazilian player was sacked by email in 2021 - his contract was rescinded.

The court has ruled in his favour, although not completely, as he had been asking for 14.8 million euros for moral damage caused by his departure. Barca say they will appeal the sentence at the Tribunal Superior Justice de Catalunya.

The club already paid the player 810k euros in October that they owed him.

Fernandes signed for Barca in January 2020 under the previous board. He came from Palmeiras for 7m euros plus 3m in variables and played just 17 minutes for Barcelona, in a dead rubber against Dynamo Kiev.

The player had a salary of around 5m euros a season. Barcelona sacked him in June 2021, with four years left on his deal.

While at Barca he played half a season at Valladolid on loan but only appeared in three games.

After sacking he returned to Palmeiras, and currently plays on loan at Bragantino.
