Barcelona to take chance on Balde rather than move for Valencia's Gaya

The B team left-back will be the next youngster to get a chance in the first team squad

Pending the election of a new president, Barcelona are working on plans for the squad for next season. One area they need to resolve is the left-back position, with coach Ronald Koeman and the current sporting directorate ready to bet on Alejandro B alde.

The decision has already been taken to let Junior Firpo leave in the summer. The left-back joined from Real Betis in 2019 to provide competition for Jordi Alba but has not been able to. So much so, in fact, that Sergiño Dest has been preferred to him at left-back at times.

Therefore, the chosen player to act as back-up to Alba is Balde. The young defender is playing for the B team and the preference is to promote him rather than sign Jose Luis Gaya from Valencia. Barça are in a tough moment financially and want to focus their efforts on signing a striker.

Various candidates for the presidency have sounded out Gaya's people. The Valencia and Spain left-back would be keen to make the jump to Camp Nou and fight for titles.

However, the Blaugrana feel they need a striker to strengthen the team more than a left-back, with Alba still doing OK, and are not in a position to take on many signings this summer.
