Barcelona to offer Dembele new contract based on his availability

The French forward won't see his pay reduced if he can remain fit

Xavi Hernandez made it clear at his presentation: "Ousmane Dembele's contract renewal is a priority."

The days are passing and Barcelona have not been capable, so far, of sealing an agreement for the French forward to extend his stay beyond June 30, when his current terms expire.

SPORT have learned that the Catalan club are trying to find the a way balance the club's delicate financial situation with an attractive offer for the player.

Given that, the 'Alemany formula' is gaining weight: Mateu Alemany, Barça's director of football, is proposing a contract based on Dembele's participation, a type of contract he used during spells with Mallorca and Valencia.

Barça's idea is to get Dembele to agree to a contract which is linked to how much time he can spend on the pitch. The club want to reduce how much he earns as a fixed rate and exchange it for variables based on participation.

In other words, Dembele's salary will depend on him staying fit but would remain almost the same as it is now if he does. In fact, including the team bonuses, he could even earn more.
