Barcelona struggling in defence: seven goals leaked in four games

Ernesto Valverde's side need to tighten up at the back

Four league games and seven goals conceded. That's almost two goals leaked a game -- 1.75 to be exact. On Saturday, against Valencia, the Blaugrana couldn't keep their opponents out once again and conceded two goals in their 5-2 win. They've conceded twice in their last three games.

Keeping a clean sheet is an outstanding task for Barça, who have been good going forward (12 goals scored), but in defence they have had many problems. The conceded against Athletic (1-0), Betis (5-2), Osasuna (2-2) and Valencia (5-2).

Only in two preseason games did they even keep clean sheets: against Vissel Kobe (0-2) and Napoli (0-4, in Ann Arbor). What Ernesto Valverde's side did manage against Valencia was to score the game's first goal.

The last time Barça kept a clean sheet in an official game was against Getafe (2-0) on May 12 in the 37th league game of last season.

Since then, they have conceded against Eibar and Valencia (2018-19) and Athletic, Betis, Osasuna and Valencia (2019-20). Ter Stegen, who won his 140th game for Barça on Saturday, has conceded 177 goals. He's kept 83 clean sheets.
