Barcelona see Dani Olmo as almost impossible to sign this summer

The forward, made at La Masia but later of Zagreb and Leipzig, has long been of interest

Dani Olmo showed his great quality again with Spain, scoring the winner against Albania. It’s been a hard season for him because of injury but he’s back now.

Olmo is a player who has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. They looked at him last summer but Leipzig are strong financially and had no need to sell the player.

Olmo is open to taking a step forward in his career and returning ‘home’ to Barcelona. He has a contract until 2024 and is 23 years old.

His progression has gone well since leaving Barça for Dinamo Zagreb, then Leipzig, who paid 30m euros for him.

Olmo will be at the Qatar World Cup barring anything untoward, where he can show his quality on a bigger stage still.

Leipzig may have to sell in the summer of 2023 as he’ll have only a year left on his deal then.

For now Barcelona are looking elsewhere, at Raphinha of Leeds, for example. Olmo is not an option right now because of the cost.
