Barcelona want to move for Frenkie de Jong again despite Ajax's repeated dismissals of their interest. The La Liga champions hope to have another meeting this week to speak about the midfielder's future.
Barça want to be ready in the case that they have to strengthen their midfield immediately and are prepared to make a big effort to land the young Dutchman. They also want things to be friendly between the two clubs.
THE KEY: THE champions LEAGUE
Ajax have explained to Barcelona that they want to keep de Jong. In the most recent conversations, the Eredivisie club have always said there's no chance they will sell if they reach the Champions League, but it hasn't killed the Catalan's interest.
The Dutch side face Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League playoff round. What's most likely is that they hang on to de Jong until the second leg, in Kyiv on August 28. If Barça reach an agreement, they would then have the final two days of the window to finalise things.
De Jong wants to sign for Barça but has a lot of respect for Ajax. The player's told the club he's keen to move to Camp Nou, be that now or next summer. Barça feel he would fit in perfectly and would be an immediate hit in midfield. They want him.
