The player will sign on until 2022 and raise his salary

Sergi Roberto will be the next Barcelona player whose contract is extended. The Catalan club have reached an agreement with him, in principle, to extend his deal until June 2022, with an improvement in salary too.

Oscar Grau, the club's CEO and Pep Segura, sporting director, were the two who negotiated the deal with Josep Maria Orobitg, the player's agent.

The release clause is a sticking point which needs to be worked out. It will be between 100 and 200 million euros.

Sergi Roberto's contract ends in 2019 and his salary is one of the lowest in the squad - and his release clause is 40 million.

He has become a target for top sides, with Juventus and Chelsea interested. Sergi Roberto considered leaving but in the end decided to stay at Camp Nou where he is happy.

"It's a question of days," said a source from the club over his new deal.
