Barcelona president Joan Laporta sends warning to Ilaix Moriba

The midfielder's contract is up and there's no agreement over new terms still

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was crystal clear when explaining the Ilaix Moriba situation at Emerson's presentation Monday.

Contract negotiations with Ilaix's people have not led to an agreement with the midfielder into the final year of his deal.

"The Ilaix situation can't be repeated, a player developed by the club waiting for the final year of his deal to force the situation," Laporta warned.

"He doesn’t want to renew with the conditions offered by the club. We cannot accept that so we have to send a message. He’s a great player but if he doesn’t renew there are other solutions. I feel bad but the club comes first

"I ask him and his people to reconsider and come to an agreement. We're not going to promote a player for him to move to another club for free [in 2022]. I don’t understand why he doesn’t recognise what Barca have done for him. Whoever wants to leave is free to do so -- with certain conditions, of course."

The main problem is financial and the club are certain the player has a big offer either for now or in a year and believe it could be from Chelsea, who wanted to sign him before he signed his professional contract with Barça.

The Blaugrana will leave their last offer on the table, with his contract up in 2022, and there could be a final decision this week.
